It was raining pretty hard outside. I couldn't go to sleep so instead I grabbed my notebook and started to draw. Out of nowhere I heard a loud noise which had made me fall out of my bed. "Ouch... my back..." I muttered. I wasn't sure if I should run to the open my window and see what was going on or if I should run and hide. I sat on the floor until my alarm clock went off signaling that it was time for me to get up. "I guess it's nothing..." I said to myself shrugging it off before grabbing my notebook and shoving it inside my bag. I got ready for the day and left the house without saying goodbye to my father as he was still sleeping.

I woke up pretty early mostly in my house it's always noisy and it gets really annoying, it was probably my father and his workers. Let me tell you, my father is a leader and a lot of people call my family monsters because of what we are. We would always moved frequently as many people wanted to hurt us are always after us. It's quite difficult to keep what we are a secret. I'm not saying we like to hurt people but we sometimes have our reasons as to why we need to. I don't have anger problems it's just when I'm mad I can't control it, my parents get really afraid especially my younger brother and sister. They're just afraid that something can happen. School was only half day today so I just went straight to school and when it had ended I went to work. I would always have to walk there since I didn't have a car but that's fine for me. I work at a restaurant well it was more so a cafe. There weren't many people here so it was a slow day. I put my umberalla aside to let it dry and started taking orders from customers. There are different kinds of gear that are used in the army. All of them have been crafted to be used by soldiers.

Line of fire can be an extremely dangerous territory to venture into. Only the best of the best are sent to handle any situation that might lead to a face-off.

One particular gear that is used by everyone is the chest rig. This is the rig that is assigned to the majority of the defense personnel for carrying various types of equipment.

It is worn on top of a Tactical plate carrier. But there are fair chances that it might be worn alone or is in-built within the carriers.

It depends upon the person which format suits them and their work. The basic structure consists of straps with multiple compartments for storing different objects and carrying them.

They can also be used in cases when a person needs to do a perimeter analysis and carry different objects at once. On top, the best part is that they do not contain any plates.

The format is quite similar to the normal belts that are worn on top of belts. Chest rigs can be considered as an updated and evolved version.

Aleksey and his men drive a refrigerated white van, marked with a red cross, to carry out their work. They often drive towards danger to collect the bodies and remains of dead Ukrainian and Russian troops and civilians.

"We work with no days off. Constantly. We drive, we investigate, we transport, we search, all the time," he says.

It's grim work too - digging up the decomposing bodies of Russian soldiers buried in shallow trenches, or gathering their remains from burnt out armoured vehicles.

According to the United Nations, more than 5,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed since Russia invaded in February.

There are no official figures for how many Ukrainian troops have died. But one adviser to President Zelensky told the BBC last month that between 100-200 Ukrainian soldiers were being killed every day. On average it's at the lower end of that scale.


Aleksey says that figure sounds realistic to him. But he believes the Russians are losing three times that number.

One Ukrainian soldier we spoke to, who had fought in Severodonetsk, described Russian tactics as similar to the First World War - with waves of their infantry running into a hail of bullets.

Who does Aleksey think is winning the war? "It's not about who is winning," he says. "It's about who's right. They [Russia] came here and that was unforgivable".

But it's taking its toll on the living as well as the dead. Aleksey hasn't seen his one-year-old daughter for months.
