Cultivating Calm – An Inner Superpower

Disruption and change is life today - and maintaining calm in this storm is not less than a superpower.

As a mindset coach in Canada for more than a decade and a real estate coach, I realise that stress and anxiety have the power to bring turmoil in our lives only if we react to it in a certain way. We ourselves give the power to others and negative emotions to disrupt our lives.

Imagine a sudden crisis, an incident which throws you off guard, you go into shock and a shut down. This incident happens to you personally or in your course of work. Your mind signals to the rest of the body to cope with a heightened response. Quick is necessary but as an experienced life coach I would say when you are hit by a crisis or a negative situation, first take a pause. Its like you are driving on the highway and you see a big crowd on the road. Do you press on the accelerator or slow down?

There is no denying the fact that we live in a chaotic world but having a calm mindset keeps you ahead. Some are born with this kind of demeanour and some need to develop this mindset. However, the sooner we make it happen, the better it is for us and for people around us. A calm mindset does not disrupt your strategy and execution but keeps you composed so that you can weigh your options and take right decisions in crucial moments keeping your business or personal life on track. Even otherwise in the buzz of the business world taking well thought decisions is a differentiator.

A calm, cool and collected mind is an asset. It helps achieve more in career, relationships, and even personal life. Calmness is not the absence of chaos but it means that we are maintaining our fort amidst it. It can be characterised by tranquility, peace and inner harmony.

Being a business consultant and life coach in US, I am sharing few tips to develop a mindset that boasts of calmness, peace, stability, positivity and harmony.

·         Awareness: We need to be aware of our thoughts and emotions. Let them not go haywire. They can become your biggest strength. Recognise the internal dialogue and take steps to get calm and in control.

·         Mindfulness: Taking some time out to sit quietly, focusing and observing thoughts without biases and judgement can train our mind to be calmer.

·         Control: It is important to be aware of your trigger points, situations or people leading to stress and anxiety, losing temper and spreading toxicity. Look at them objectively and find solutions to deal with them.

·         Digital Detox: Creating a space for mental rest and relaxation goes a long way in cultivating a calm mindset with no pressures and comparisons.

·         Nature and Yoga: There is nothing that nature cannot resolve. Just spending time in nature can help us gain a positive perspective. It makes us think what a small fraction we are in this universe and if chaos and negativity should really be given any heed. Yoga is invaluable in creating good health and maintaining a balance.

·         Do things you like: Music, journal, exercise, walk, dance, do what makes your heart happy. Happiness promotes a calm mindset.

Calmness is a superpower that we can all cultivate and harness to our advantage. It may not be a one-size fits all journey but try your options and adopt to one or few that resonate with you the most. By staying calm in the face of stress and chaos, we can make better decisions, improve our relationships, and enjoy better physical and mental health. With mindfulness and practice, we can all become more calm, centered, and empowered in our daily lives.
